I was born in the beautiful city of Georgetown, Guyana. From the manicured botanical spaces in the Georgetown to the distant interiors, it was a land of great beauty. Many indelible images from childhood are forever etched in my mind. The Bank of Guyana, the tallest building in the country, was a full four stories high. I remember being in awe the first time I saw it.

The BWIA jet circled New York City on a clear and very cold winter night, the lights stretched for miles, as far as the eyes could see. The Empire State building, the bridges of New York, all well lit, the sight was incomprehensible to the eyes of a thirteen year old from the tropics. No pictures.

I was introduced to photography as a junior in high school. My first camera was a Yashica range finder that allowed me to capture life's moments and moods as important records of our past. The darkroom provided even more freedom for creativity. Photography became my favorite pass time, particularly black and white photography. Black and white and the gray in between often convey the drama and emotion of life in a way that is compelling. I am often challenged by color and find it a distraction; however, it has its place as is evident in the content of this site.

I currently own both film and digital cameras. I use a Canon EOS Elan 7E single lens reflex (SLR) body with a Tamron 28 to 300mm zoom as an all purpose working lens. My second camera is a Kodak 4.1 mega pixel digital camera. Until recently digital SLR cameras with quality comparable to that of their film based counterparts were very expensive and out of reach of most amateurs. I am currently looking at the Cannon EOS 20D 8 mega pixel digital SLR to replace the Kodak digital.
